He informed that the satisfaction rates were obtained via a survey carried out by his ministry in collaboration with Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, an Indonesian print media outlet, and a telecommunications company.
“The satisfaction rate for what has been done during the exodus thankfully showed a good result,” he observed after a meeting on the 2024 Eid al-Fitr exodus evaluation at the Presidential Palace here on Monday.
In terms of traffic safety, the government recorded an eight percent decline in accidents that caused fatalities. The number of victims with minor injuries declined by 10 percent.
However, the number of victims who sustained severe injuries rose by up to 33 percent compared to last year’s exodus period.
According to the minister, the number of people provided free exodus services reached 133 thousand.
Furthermore, the survey showed that trains were the most favored means of transportation among exodus travelers.
However, taking note of the limited number of trains, the minister proposed that state-run railway company KAI add more trains so that Eid train travel would increase. The proposal was approved by President Joko Widodo.
The government is also planning to increase the number of ports to prevent an accumulation of passengers, as witnessed at Merak port, Banten, during the previous Eid homecoming season.
Based on the survey, 242 million Indonesians traveled for two hours during the 2024 Eid holiday period, which indicates they were likely participating in the Eid exodus.
