“The (deliberation) team must involve authorities of buffer regions, and (they) must refrain from perceiving that this is only Jakarta’s issue. I still see sectoral ego (between authorities) that must be eliminated because Jakarta must also consider the Greater Jakarta area,” Rahadiansyah noted here on Wednesday.
The deliberation process must consider provisions of Presidential Regulation No. 60 of 2020 on Spatial Planning of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Puncak, and Cianjur urban regions, he remarked.
Article 2 of the Presidential Regulation stipulates Jakarta as the core region for periphery regions expounded in the law, the expert stated.
Rahadiansyah urged the provincial authority to follow up on all proposals and suggestions submitted by members of the public regarding the future of Jakarta.
“That is good, because since earlier we also have such channels, for instance, to submit a public complaint. However, if public inputs are not being followed up, it would be a waste,” the expert noted.
Rahadiansyah suggested that the Jakarta Special Province Law also include democratic procedures that other provinces have, yet absent in Jakarta due to its special status.
“If other provinces have regional elections, then Jakarta mayors must be directly elected, and (Jakarta administrative cities) must have their legislature,” he stated.
Rahadiansyah also pressed for greater coordination between the Jakarta authority and the central government even after the national capital relocated to Nusantara City in East Kalimantan.
Earlier, Jakarta provincial Regional Secretariat’s Assistant for Government Affairs Sigit Wijatmoko stated that the authority is currently deliberating on the draft of the Jakarta Special Province Bill that would be submitted to the Home Affairs Ministry upon completion.
The provincial authority had also established an internal drafting team, with a working group separated into eight sectors.
“We will continue (to work on) finalising the draft. We are committed to making Jakarta a global city and economic centre despite no longer serving as the government centre,” Wijatmoko stated at the Jakarta City Hall on Monday (Apr 4).
