IPL playoff scenario: Can KL Rahul’s LSG still qualify after 98-run defeat again

LSG’s qualification scenario: 

The Kl Rahul-led side won 6 out of their 11 matches this season and are standing 5th on the points table with 12 points to their name and a net run rate of -0.371. LSG aren’t in a spot for now, for their playoff qualification remains in their hands. 

LSG will comfortably make it to the playoffs if they win their next 3 matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians. However, they might have to depend on the results of other teams to secured a confirmed berth if they lose even 1 out of their next 2 matches. 

Notably, prior to the introduction of LSG and GT in 2022, IPL teams qualified for the playoffs even with even 12 or 14 points. But since then, the competition for the top 4 spots has increased a lot, and teams usuallly require 16 points to be relatively secure about a playoff berth and 18 points to clear all doubts about their qualification.

KKR playoff scenario: 

Kolkata Knight Riders have all but qualified for the playoffs and are placed on top of the IPL Points Table with 16 points to their name and a net run rate of +1.453. With 3 matches still left for them in the league stages, KKR just need to win just one more match in order to secure a berth in IPL 2024 Playoffs.

The Shreyas Iyer led side will face Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals in their next 3 matches.
