Jokowi inaugurates IDTH as ASEAN’s largest digital device test center

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the construction of the Indonesia Digital Testing House (IDTH) as the largest and most comprehensive digital and telecommunications equipment testing center in Southeast Asia.

“I am grateful that we have the Indonesia Digital Testing House now, an international standard equipment testing center that was previously announced by the minister of communication and information. The largest and most complete in Southeast Asia,” President Jokowi stated on Tuesday.

Jokowi made the statement while giving a speech at the inauguration of IDTH at the Telecommunications Equipment Testing Center (BBPPT) Tapos in Depok, West Java.

President Jokowi explained that IDTH, which is the new face of the Telecommunication Equipment Testing Center, is the leading digital equipment certification center in the Southeast Asian region.

After his inspection, the president stated that all rooms and facilities were equipped with ultra-modern equipment. He also revealed that the budget for building the IDTH reached Rp980 billion (US$61 million).

“Hence, if the equipment is super sophisticated like that, then it is not surprising, because the budget is large. I know that the testing device has a very crucial role. All digital devices are tested at this place,” the president remarked.

The head of state explained that all devices, such as laptops, cellphones, digital televisions, handy talkies, and radars, were tested at IDTH.

Before being marketed, all devices are tested at IDTH to ensure security, health, and safety standards for users of digital devices.

Jokowi expressed hope that the IDTH would not just become a certification test site but will also produce innovation and strengthen the local digital technology ecosystem.

The president also urged the Ministry of Communication and Information to continue to encourage research and development as well as collaborate with universities, start-up companies, and MSMEs in encouraging research and patents.

Thus, IDTH can support the development of testing and certification of local products, so that domestic digital device products can compete better.

“Digitalization is the basis for domestic industrial and economic development by placing local producers as kings in their own country,” the president stated.
