RCB vs GT IPL 2024: Virat Kohli reminds umpire to call a wide ball

Notably, the incident occured during the 7th over the match when RCB pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak bowling a delivery on the leg side that David Miller attempted to play but eventually failed to make contact as the ball went straight to wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik in the end. Seeing the ball close to the bat, all the RCB players started appealing in unison for a caught out dismissal but the on-field umpre refused.

Not satisified with the umpire’s decision, skipper Faf Du Plessis asked keeper Dinesh Karthik if he thought there was an edge but Karthik said he didn’t hear anything. Eventually though, Du Plessis felt there was enough merit in this call to get a second look by the third umpre and called for a review. 

However, the third umpre checked the replay and found there was no bat involved before the ball went into Dinesh Karthik’s glove and suggested the umpire to stay with his on-field call of not out, which the umpire did. But Virat Kohli then came to the umpire rescue by gesturing to him that he declare the ball as a wide delivery as well, a decision that would go on to cost his team a run.
