World Water Forum to bring US$35-$50 mln to Bali’s economy: Minister

The minister noted that the demand for flights to Bali surged ahead of the forum scheduled to take place on May 18-25, 2024.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno estimated that the 10th World Water Forum in Bali will potentially contribute around US$35 million to US$50 million to the island’s economy.

In a virtual press conference here on Monday, he noted that the event is projected to be attended by 35 thousand to 50 thousand domestic and foreign participants, thereby giving a high income for local businesses and boosting the local economy.

“We also believe that the World Water Forum in Bali can become a historic milestone for Indonesia and Bali to play a strategic role in water management with local wisdom,” he remarked.

The minister noted that the demand for flights to Bali surged ahead of the forum scheduled to take place on May 18-25, 2024.

Uno remarked that his ministry had analyzed the demand for flights to Bali to consider the possibility of additional flights during the World Water Forum.

The minister further said he would coordinate with the Ministry of Transportation to consider adding flights to Bali to accommodate the surge in demand.

Indonesia was chosen to host the 10th World Water Forum, themed “Water for Shared Prosperity,” during the General Assembly of the World Water Council in Senegal in 2022.

The forum is an international meeting of stakeholders in the water resources sector, such as governments, parliaments, political leaders, multilateral institutions, politicians, academicians, civil society, and business players.

The upcoming forum will cover six sub-themes: water security and prosperity; water for humans and nature; disaster risk reduction and management; governance, cooperation, and hydro diplomacy; sustainable water finance; and knowledge and innovation.
