World Water Forum to open investment opportunities: govt

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The 10th World Water Forum is expected to open up investment opportunities worth trillions of rupiah for Indonesia, both through bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Expert staff to the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Firdaus Ali, delivered the remarks in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.

“There are commitments that have been discussed, but later the Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister (Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan) will convey more details. There are several projects with a value of up to trillions,” he said.

Therefore, Indonesia, as the host, is not only determined to make the forum a success, but also encourage outputs and outcomes that can be executed by countries around the world at the project level and translate into real action in the field, Ali added.

“This is not just a ceremonial activity. This is a meeting that discusses real realities on the ground, so concrete steps are needed. That is why the president of the World Bank has stated that he will attend. Likewise with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB),” he informed.

At the forum, business meetings will also be held with strategic partners to discuss potential cooperation and investment related to water infrastructure development.

The 10th World Water Forum will focus on discussing four things — water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and mitigation of natural disasters.

There will be a total of 244 sessions during the forum, which are expected to provide concrete results on the mainstreaming of integrated water management for small islands, or Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) on Small Islands; the establishment of a center of excellence or best practices for water and climate security, or the Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience (COE); as well as the designation of World Lakes Day.

The Indonesian Government has invited 43 ambassadors and 4 international organizations to participate in the forum, which will be held in Bali from May 18–25, 2024.
