World’s richest cricketer is an Indian; can you guess who?

Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni, often assumed to be the richest cricketers in the world, have accumulated substantial fortunes throughout their careers. Tendulkar’s estimated net worth stands at approximately 1,250 crore while Dhoni’s net worth is believed to be around 1,040 crore. However, they stand no way close to the richest cricketer in the world.

He is an Indian ‘Maharaja’. The title of the richest cricketer in the world goes to Samarjitsin Ranjit Singh Gaikwad. During his playing career, he was a first-class batsman.

Samarjitsinh Gaekwad, born in 1967, is a member of the illustrious Gaekwad family from Baroda (Vadodara), Gujarat. He is the former king of Baroda and the sole heir of Ranjitsingh Pratapsingh Gaikwad and Subanginiraje. Following his father’s passing in 2012, Samarjitsinh Gaekwad ascended to the title of Maharaja and inherited a vast fortune exceeding 20,000 crore in value.

Hailing from a lineage rooted in Pune, the Gaekwads have maintained their influential position in Baroda for over two centuries. At present, Samarjitsinh Gaekwad, aged 55, assumes the esteemed role of the head of Baroda’s royal family.

This prestigious lineage possesses the opulent Laxmi Vilas Palace, acknowledged as the largest privately-owned residence worldwide. In addition to his illustrious royal duties, Samarjitsinh Gaekwad indulges in his passion for golf on a personal 10-hole course nestled within the sprawling grounds of the Laxmi Vilas Palace.

Moreover, Samarjitsinh’s cricketing prowess is noteworthy, having showcased his skills while representing his state in the prestigious Ranji Trophy. Though he briefly explored a foray into the realm of politics, Samarjitsinh has maintained a low profile in that domain since 2017.

Beyond this architectural marvel, Samarjitsinh has inherited a remarkable assortment of invaluable treasures, including renowned artist Raja Ravi Varma’s masterful paintings, as well as precious gold and silver jewellery, as per GQ India.

Additionally, he undertakes the responsibility of overseeing temple trusts for an impressive count of 17 temples, spread across Gujarat and Banaras.
