Decision on Prabowo-Gibran’s win in line with KPU decree: Hasyim

Jakarta (ANTARA) – General Elections Commission (KPU) Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari stated that appointment of Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka as elected candidate pair in the 2024 Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections aligned with KPU Decree Number 504 of 2024.

Asy’ari then read out the decision of the decree at the Indonesian KPU office in Jakarta on Wednesday.

“Deciding, determining the elected presidential and vice presidential candidate pair in the 2024 General Election candidate pair number 2, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the elected presidential and vice presidential candidate pair for the 2024—2029 period in the 2024 General Election,” he stated.

According to the KPU chairman, the pair secured a total of 96,214,691 votes, or 58.59 percent of the total national valid votes, and obtained at least 20 percent of the votes in each of the 38 provinces spread across Indonesia.

This decision will come into effect when it is stipulated on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, he remarked.

Earlier, Idham Holik, one of the KPU members, remarked that the determination of the elected presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs would be no later than three days after the reading of the Constitutional Court (MK) decision regarding disputes over election results in accordance with Article 4 of KPU Regulation (PKPU) Number 6 of 2024.

Holik noted that the decision of Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka was in accordance with the reading of the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) on April 22, which rejected all petitions from Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD in the trial of the 2024 General Election Results Dispute (PHPU) for President and Vice President.

The KPU gave the elected presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs the opportunity to deliver their speeches at the Open Plenary Session to Determine the Elected Candidate Candidates.

Earlier, on April 22, the MK decided on two dispute cases over the 2024 presidential election filed by Anies-Muhaimin and Ganjar-Mahfud. The decision reading session was chaired by Chief Justice Suhartoyo.

In its decision, MK rejected all requests submitted by Anies-Muhaimin and Ganjar-Mahfud since the petitions were legally groundless in their entirety.

Regarding this decision, the three constitutional judges, namely Saldi Isra, Enny Nurbaningsih, and Arief Hidayat had differing opinions. They stated that the MK should order re-voting in several regions.

In their petitum, Ganjar-Mahfud and Anies-Muhaimin urged the MK to cancel KPU Decree Number 360 of 2024 concerning the Determination of the Results of the 2024 Presidential and Vice Presidential General Elections.
