Manpower Minister urges training centers to bridge job gap

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah has urged vocational training centers to adjust courses to the workforce demand in the job market to prevent unemployment among alumni.

In her opening speech for a competency-based training activity, which was followed online from Jakarta on Friday, she said that vocational and productivity training centers (BBPVPs) should redesign their training courses while taking workforce demand into consideration.

“We need to continue to increase the employment rate among alumni of training centers. Vocational training centers should not produce unemployed people as the output. It is better to shut down BBPVPs that only produce unemployed persons,” she added.

Fauziyah urged all leaders of training centers to conduct link and match activities to adapt their courses to the needs of the job market.

“It is necessary for them to carefully observe workforce demand so that training centers will not produce unemployed people. All vocational training centers should pay close attention to this matter,” she stressed.

To that end, she suggested that training centers hold communication forums to coordinate and synergize with business entities and industries in the hopes of forging a link between training centers and the job market.

She added that all vocational training centers under her ministry should serve as meeting places to communicate with business players and other training centers managed by private actors.

“It is important to make vocational training centers places that develop, synergize, and support the realization of link and match,” she said.
